What Is A Generator Set?
A generator set is simply a type of used power plant. Generator sets, or GenSet, are one of the more popular types of used power plants on the market. A generator set is the combination of an electrical generator and an engine mounted together. They form a single piece of equipment that produces electrical power. The electrical power of the generator fuels the mechanical work of the engine in the generator. This piece of equipment is also referred to as an alternator.
A worksite uses a generator in a few different ways. Perhaps a site is not connected to a power grid and needs external power somehow. That is when a generator set can come in handy.
They can also be used to supply emergency power when a grid fails, so there is assurance that power can come back on with a working GenSet.

How Does A Generator Set Work?
A generator set is a combination of a prime mover, typically an engine, and an alternator. An engine converts the chemical energy of a fuel into mechanical energy. The alternator rotor spins from that mechanical energy and converts the mechanical energy into electrical energy. Two main parts make up an alternator: a rotor and stator. Through the phenomenon of electromagnetic induction, spinning the alternator rotor through the magnetic field between the rotor and stator creates a voltage on the alternator stator. Electrical current flows when the voltage on the stator is connected to a load. Then the generator produces its power. Ultimately, the generator set creates portable sources of energy.
