Electric Arc Furnace Reseller

TrueForge is a buyer and reseller of electric arc furnaces. This equipment is widely used for industrial and steelmaking applications. An electric arc furnace is a high-temperature furnace that uses high-voltage electric currents as the primary heating element. For the most part, these furnaces are a critical part of iron and steel recycling operations and are featured in "mini-mills" that recycle iron scrap for reuse. This furnace is also used in the production of steel, too.

The Purpose of Electric Furnaces

electric arc furnaceIn general, there are four primary types of furnaces that get used in foundries across the Unites States. Those furnaces are cupola furnaces, induction furnaces, crucible furnaces, and the electric arc furnace. Each of these furnaces use different methods to complete the same general task, which is to melt down metal or scrap metal by using an incredible amount heat in order to shape it and use it again. Use these end result metals for construction purposes, to electronics, to household goods. But whatever the reason, the furnace allows for a simple and easy recycling of the metal.

When it comes to the specific type of furnace, there are different uses of the machinery. A cupola furnace is heated through the burning of coke, coal, and limestone fuel. Induction furnaces are heated with electrically charged copper coils. And crucible furnaces are heated with and hot plates. All to deliver the most efficient and controlled heat that makes them perfect for working with metals, such as brass, aluminum, copper and gold. Then we come to the electric arc furnace, which uses both electricity and solid fuel as the heat sources. These furnaces can easily process both scrap iron and iron ore to make steel.

The Components of an Electric Arc Furnace

An electric arc furnace is essentially a giant-heat resistant kettle that is powered by three graphite spikes. This furnace has a removable water-cooled lid that holds the graphite spikes and is connected to large power lines that act as electrodes. When you raise the lid, the furnace can be loaded with any combination of iron scrap, iron ore, flux, and solid fuel. When you close the furnace and secure it tightly, then the electrodes can be lowered into the scrap to begin the melting process.

An electric arc furnace will melt down the scrap and ore through the use of their graphite electrodes. When the power is fed into the arc furnace, the electricity will jump between the two energized electrodes and into the neutral, grounded electrode. The end result is a high-voltage electric arc that give off large amounts of direct and radiant heat that will melt the contents of the furnace.

When you use an electric arc furnace, you can use both electricity and solid fuels. If you also place solid fuels into the furnace, the heat from the electrodes transfers to the fuels and sets it all on fire, which will increase the overall heat of the furnace. When the molten metal is ready for use, it can be drained through a special port on the furnace fro the casting and forging. In general, the entire process takes around an hour.
