What Is A Bar Peeler?
What does a bar peeler do? Well, bar peeling refers to a metalworking process and is an important step in the manufacturing of precision parts. Bar peeling occurs relatively early in the metal forming process. The forging and/or hot-rolling process form steel blanks. They generally have surface imperfections. These imperfections can be like micro stacks or discontinuous "skins" that form during the cooling process. For further processing, remove these imperfections before the blank can be formed into a sufficient raw material.
This raw stock can be later machined into finished pieces, such as axles, piston rods, or extrusion blanks for manufacturing steel tubes. It is important in all of these cases to have a completely smooth, defect-free continuous surface with precise dimensions. And this is where a bar peeler comes into play, because it is used to smooth the surface. A bar peeler also creates the dimensions for downstream parts processing.
